Today we had a lovely fleeting visit from K' Road personality and Auckland nightlife stalwart, Andrew Tidball. Next week he's kicking off celebrations for the 5th birthday of his indie music bible CheeseOnToast.co.nz. It's lasting a whole fortnight, with 11 events that span everyone's tastes in things. Stephen Hart took a well earned break this week from his regular Hart and Soul feature. It takes a lot of effort and insurance premium dollars maintaining such a rare collection of soul gems.

Harlan Levine joined us live from Black Friday Night in New York, the day after Thanksgiving. He told us about people so crazy about getting in on Christmas shopping sales they trampled a WalMart employee to death. USA ALL THE WAY!

When he's not observing bizarre human behaviour he's usually doing something pretty interesting, so you should have a read of his blog.

This blogging business is already proving too much for my laziness.

Anyway, this week we did the usual Saturday Special routine.

Stephen Hart wandered down from K Rd, and on his way found what he considered the top 3 Northern Soul tracks of all time...

Last night was the launch of the ever-enterprising Ant Timpson's Incredibly Strange Tee Vee at the Hollywood Cinema in Avondale. It's going to be screening every Saturday night on MGM channel, and from the previews we saw last night I think I may become a nana and stay home to tune in every week.

Shit I'm tired.

So today Hannah slept through her alarm and I was all on my own, which was ok I guess, except I had no one to make me coffee, cook me eggs, fry me bacon, and pamper my guests.

We managed to slip off air for a minute or so in the first hour of the show which, while providing a certain level of excitement for myself, wasn't that great to listen to. Luckily Rick Breeze was hanging around the gallows of bFM, so was quick to patch it all back together again. Thanks Rick.

Guy Charlton from the University of Auckland came up to talk about the US Presidential Election which is only 4 days away. He explained some of the strange quirks in the US system and predicted an Obama 5% victory. Looks like I'm gonna lose $100 to Jose Barbosa. I've gotta stop making stupid bets.

Stephen strolled down from K Rd to give us a lesson in Soul for Hart and Soul. This week's theme was reggae-stars-do-soul, and the general feeling in the studio (ie me and Stephen) was that they did a pretty good job of it. Desmond Dekker's 'I've Got The Blues' had the strongest wiff of Jamaica, and Owen Gray's 'Help Me' stuck with the reggae tradition of putting as much reverb on the horns as possible. Then we found out (through Stephen's thorough research) that Jimmy Cliff's influence extends beyond the reggae realm and into 90's pop culture. He wrote Hakuna Matata for the Lion King, and performed I Can See Clearly Now for Cool Runnings.

Friday Night in New York came to us from a motorway between New York and Philly this week as Harlan (our New York correspondent) travelled to a Halloween wedding. He told us that New York is suffering from a post-CMJ depression at the moment, so there's not that much going on. He did go and see the Black Lips and Teenagers in a warehouse though.

Next week it'll be Election Day! I'm co-hosting bFM's election special (from 7pm till midnight), so I may not do the Special, but who knows. 8 hours on air on one day sounds... fun?

Hello, today we did our show as usual. We tried some new things and played some new stings that we made during the week.

In Hart and Soul, Stephen focussed on The Four Tops, and in particular their lead singer Levi Stubbs (who recently passed away).

Friday Night in New York: Harlan has been busy with school, but still had time to sneak into a few CMJ shows, and see NZ's The Sneaks.

Also, in a new feature that's yet to be named, Samantha Hayes from TV3's Nightline came up and read the news.
